Place 37: Mount Hope Cemetery
1957 onwardGeorgie's burial place is named. The novel passages used do not determine its position within Derry. This edge-of-town placement is deliberately approximate and does not copy Bangor coordinates.
About Mount Hope Cemetery
Mount Hope Cemetery is the named burial place of Georgie Denbrough and a quiet off-map presence in the family’s life after 1957. Unlike many central Derry locations, it is not tied in the source material to a street, district, bridge or neighbouring landmark. The atlas places it near the edge of the reconstructed town so that it can appear as a destination without forcing it into the dense downtown geography. Its marker signifies the cemetery as a literary place, not a mapped real-world counterpart.
Why this pin is marked C
Proposed. The book leaves a gap; the point is the atlas’s proposal.
This is a level C location because the cemetery’s name and narrative function are secure, while its position within Derry is not. No usable route or local spatial relationship in the reviewed passages fixes a direction or distance from the centre. The selected edge-of-town point is deliberately only one plausible solution. It does not borrow the coordinates of a real Mount Hope Cemetery, and neither the grounds, entrance nor Georgie’s grave can be located from the available evidence.
