Place U9: Dennis Torrio discovery area
March 1985In the Barrens. Georgie's photograph is found by a fallen log within about 3 m of the body. This is a significant clue before Mike calls the others, but the text does not locate the log within the valley.
About Dennis Torrio discovery area
The Dennis Torrio discovery area is somewhere in the Barrens in March 1985. Georgie’s photograph is found beside a fallen log within about three metres of Torrio’s body, making the place an important link between the recent killing and the older history remembered by Mike. The close relationship between body, photograph and log defines a compact scene. It does not, however, connect that scene to a particular bank, path, bridge or section of the large river valley.
Why this place has no pin
No location. The book doesn’t say where it is; no point on the map.
The area is marked U because “the Barrens” is too broad to support a useful coordinate by itself. The short distance between the photograph and body is precise only within the scene and gives no position relative to mapped landmarks. Choosing a convenient log or path would manufacture a sub-location. The record therefore remains unplaced while preserving the internal arrangement and its significance, without merging it with any other encounter in the valley.
