About Apocalyptic Rockfight / old coal pit
The old coal and gravel pit is the open ground of the Apocalyptic Rockfight on 3 July 1958. It lies beyond the active city dump, beside the trainyards, where the sides of the Barrens can be climbed toward either Kansas Street or Merit Street. A later Interstate overpass gives the area another chronological reference. Although quarrying and dumping shape the same industrial fringe, this abandoned pit is treated as a distinct feature rather than an extension of the municipal waste site.
Why this pin is marked A
Named in the novel. The street or the site is named in the text; the exact lot is the atlas’s.
The pit receives level A because its order beyond the dump, adjacency to the trainyards and access toward both Kansas and Merit streets form a strong network of spatial checks. The later overpass further constrains the corridor. No surveyed limits or working faces are provided, and the source language varies between coal and gravel pit. The polygon therefore represents the documented open area broadly; its precise excavation outline, depth and boundaries with rail land are illustrative.
