Place 73: Eastern Star - former hotel
1958At the end of Exchange Street. Demolished during urban renewal before the adults return. The street end is proposed.
About Eastern Star - former hotel
The Eastern Star was a hotel beside the terminal block of Exchange Street during the 1958 period. It disappeared before the adults returned, one of the central properties removed during Derry’s urban-renewal years. Its former site helps mark both the historical endpoint of Exchange Street and the changes that make the 1985 town difficult to recognize. The atlas retains the hotel as a vanished place, using a representative building only to give the earlier street end a visible anchor.
Why this pin is marked B
Inferred. Worked out from routes, distances and what stands next to it.
This former hotel is level B because Exchange Street and its endpoint are named, but the reconstructed street itself is not supported by a complete downtown survey. The relationship gives a useful local anchor without fixing a modern parcel. The marker sits at the proposed end of Exchange, while the precise side, facade, footprint and extent of later redevelopment remain unknown. Confidence applies to the street-end relationship, not to the illustrated building geometry.
