About Derry Army Base - former grounds
Derry Army Base was a substantial military property active around 1930, extending south from land directly behind West Broadway. Ridgeline Road approached it from Witcham Road, while its northern grounds later became part of Memorial Park. The Black Spot stood within this military landscape, giving the former base a lasting place in Derry’s social history. Nothing on this map implies that the compact drawn enclosure survived unchanged or that its internal roads, buildings and greenbelt have been recovered in detail.
Why this pin is marked B
Inferred. Worked out from routes, distances and what stands next to it.
The former base is marked B because several dependable relationships establish its general setting: its northern end lay behind West Broadway, its entrance related to Ridgeline and Witcham roads, and the later park occupied part of its ground. The source also indicates an area exceeding one hundred acres, but does not provide a complete perimeter. The displayed polygon is therefore a compact interpretive extent chosen to fit those anchors, not the documented cadastral boundary of the installation.
