About Memorial Park
Memorial Park is the landscaped ground around the Standpipe, furnished with a sundial and a birdbath and remembered as one of Derry’s familiar public spaces. Its outer edge falls toward Kansas Street, opening a view across the lower ground of the Barrens. The park also joins two different periods of the town’s history: part of it occupies the former northern end of the army base, including the ground associated with the Black Spot, while Stan’s birdwatching connects it to the summer of 1958.
Why this pin is marked A
Named in the novel. The street or the site is named in the text; the exact lot is the atlas’s.
This place receives level A because the park’s relationship to the Standpipe, Kansas Street, the Barrens and the former Black Spot site is stated clearly enough to anchor it within the town. The mapped point and broad boundary preserve those relationships. They should not be read as a surveyed plan: the precise modern perimeter, the positions of the park furniture and the exact overlap with the former army property are reconstructed.
