Place 75: Derry Heights / old country club

1930; 1958

Heights seen across the Barrens, beyond Old Cape, with an earlier country club. The hill shape and club position are proposed.

About Derry Heights / old country club

Derry Heights rises beyond Old Cape when viewed across the Barrens. The district’s elevated position makes it a distant counterpart to the nearer roofs of the low-income development below. An earlier country club stood somewhere on the Heights around 1930, adding a social landmark to the hillside before the principal 1958 period. The atlas combines the district and former club in one marker while treating the surrounding hill as part of the conceptual terrain rather than surveyed topography.

Why this pin is marked B

Inferred. Worked out from routes, distances and what stands next to it.

The site receives level B because the viewing order across the Barrens—Old Cape first, Derry Heights beyond—is clear, and the country club is assigned to the Heights. These relationships establish direction and relative depth but not a route or parcel. The proposed hill and club point preserve the layered view. Their elevation, extent, street access, building location and distance beyond Old Cape are reconstructed and should not be interpreted as exact geography.
