Place 49: Patrick's refrigerator
July 1958A discarded Amana refrigerator beside a spruce on the Kansas-side approach to the dump. Patrick's trail leads away from the junk cars toward a pumping cylinder by the river; it is not assigned to the later entry cylinder.
About Patrick's refrigerator
Patrick Hockstetter’s refrigerator is a discarded Amana appliance leaning beside a spruce on the Kansas Street approach to the city dump. It belongs to the scattered debris at the edge of the waste ground in July 1958, near junked cars but before the route reaches the dump itself. From this area Patrick’s trail continues toward the river and a pumping cylinder. The marker isolates the refrigerator as a specific scene location without treating the surrounding rubbish as a fixed or complete inventory.
Why this pin is marked B
Inferred. Worked out from routes, distances and what stands next to it.
This is a level B point because its side of the Barrens, relation to the dump approach, nearby spruce and sequence before the junk-car area can be inferred, but no durable address fixes it. The later trail to a riverside cylinder does not prove that cylinder is the adults’ entry point. The atlas chooses a plausible spot along the Kansas-side path. Exact distances, tree position, debris layout and the refrigerator’s orientation are not recoverable.
