Place 80: Patrick's trail-end cylinder
July 1958At the river after the blood trail from the dump and refrigerator. The text does not equate it with Pumphouse #3 or the later entry cylinder; the reconstruction keeps them distinct.
About Patrick's trail-end cylinder
Patrick’s trail-end cylinder stands beside the river at the end of a route leading away from the refrigerator and junk cars near the dump. In July 1958 the trail descends the bank and stops at one of Derry’s concrete pumping cylinders. The structure belongs to the wider drainage system but is kept separate from both Pumphouse Number 3 and the cylinder later used as an entrance. The marker records a distinct endpoint rather than merging every similar piece of infrastructure.
Why this pin is marked B
Inferred. Worked out from routes, distances and what stands next to it.
This point is level B because the trail from the dump area to the river establishes a route and bank setting, yet several comparable cylinders exist and none carries a unique identifier. The atlas selects a plausible riverside endpoint consistent with the junk-car sequence. Its exact bank, distance, elevation and underground connection are inferred. Treating it as either the municipal pumphouse or the adults’ later entrance would claim an identity the evidence does not provide.
