Place 79: Slingshot practice / junk cars

July 1958

On the Kansas-side approach to the dump, among junked cars below the pit's steep side. Beverly practices with the Bullseye here. Car positions and the firing area are illustrative.

About Slingshot practice / junk cars

The slingshot-practice area lies among rows of junked cars on the Kansas Street approach to the city dump in July 1958. The vehicles sit below the steep face of the gravel pit, creating a rough enclosed space where Beverly tests the Bullseye before the route continues through the waste ground. This feature overlaps the dump landscape but identifies a more specific activity zone. The atlas uses scattered car symbols to distinguish it from Patrick’s refrigerator and the municipal dump proper.

Why this pin is marked B

Inferred. Worked out from routes, distances and what stands next to it.

Level B reflects a position inferred from sequence within the dump approach. The Kansas side, junk-car rows, steep pit face and relation to the practice at the dump provide a coherent setting, but no fixed structure or distance marks the firing line. The point is placed where those elements can coexist. Individual car positions, target direction, spacing, boundaries and the exact relationship to the refrigerator are illustrative rather than recoverable from the source.
