Place 74: Traveller's Rest - former hotel

1958

On Torrault Street, removed during urban renewal. The relation of that street to the similarly named stream is a reconstruction.

About Traveller's Rest - former hotel

Traveller’s Rest was a hotel on Torrault Street in the 1958 town. Like the Eastern Star, it was removed during the urban-renewal period before the adults’ return in 1985. The former hotel gives a human-scale landmark to a street that otherwise survives mainly by name in the reconstruction. Its shared name with Torrault Stream suggests a possible district relationship, but the atlas does not assume that the building stood directly beside the water.

Why this pin is marked B

Inferred. Worked out from routes, distances and what stands next to it.

Level B is appropriate because the hotel is explicitly assigned to Torrault Street, while neither an address nor a cross street is supplied. The street’s placement and its relationship to the similarly named stream are themselves inferred from the wider plan. The selected point therefore represents a plausible frontage on that road. Its block, side, footprint and distance from the stream are unknown, as is the exact area cleared during urban renewal.
