Place 42: Tracker ballfield

1958; 1985

Immediately behind the depot. A home run ends near the stream later dammed by the Losers. The field and fence are illustrative; its proximity to the dam is preserved.

About Tracker ballfield

The Tracker ballfield lies immediately behind the truck depot, on the descending side toward the Barrens. In 1958 it is an informal neighbourhood diamond, worn into the ground rather than laid out as a polished municipal field. A hit from the field carries toward the nearby stream and the place where the Losers build their dam, connecting this everyday recreation ground to the waterways below Kansas Street. The field remains recognizable in memory when the depot itself has fallen into disuse.

Why this pin is marked A

Named in the novel. The street or the site is named in the text; the exact lot is the atlas’s.

This location is level A because the field is explicitly behind the depot and its play is tied to the stream near the dam. Those two relationships place it securely on the Barrens side of the Kansas Street property. No dimensions, fence alignment, base coordinates or precise distance to the water are given. The diamond and boundary shown on the atlas are illustrative; confidence applies to the field’s adjacency to the depot and lowland, not to its drawn geometry.
